Bio
Srikanth has a Bachelor of Music degree (Major in Theory) from McGill University and also studied jazz performance at Concordia University. He started on guitar, and then focused on bass guitar a few years later. A few more years later, the call of the double bass was heard, and he responded with a 'yes'!
More recently, Srikanth often performs in Montreal with Melina Soochan , accompanying her in renown venues like Upstairs Jazz Bar, The House of Jazz, La Sala Rossa, Casino Mont Tremblant, the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, Le Piano Rouge and others. Another frequent musical partner is drummer Danick Tarfiff, with whom he's performed repeatedly at many blues dance events in the city, held in venues such as Le Petit Medley, Cafe l'Artere, Pub L'île Noire and more. Srikanth is the upright bassist for the Ballroom Blitz Big Band, performing with them at various corporate and public events around the city. He was also a part of BLUZZ, the house band for the weekly Wednesday night jazz jam sessions at Cafe Bedondaine. Srikanth collaborates with singers Komty, Angelique Duruisseau, JoAnne Mitchell and Sabrina Correa and was a bassist for Ben Sasseville's 'Les Mandibules', a francophone-folk-pop original music project. Srikanth also leads his own group "Le Sri-tet", focussing on music suitable for swing and blues dancing.
Srikanth also performed on Princess Cruises ships in the Wheelhouse Bar lounge bands, and on Carnival Cruise Lines in the show band. These cruise ship adventures have taken him to many beautiful places in the world, such as northern Europe, the Caribbean, East Asia, and Alaska.
Currently he is the bassist with The Perry Phillips Quartet, which includes Perry Phillips on drums and vocals, Lukas Swiecicki on piano, and Chad Gales on tenor saxophone. This group is currently working on alternating contracts aboard Royal Caribbean International's Allure of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas and Harmony of the Seas. The band has recorded five CDs of jazz standards and originals that are available on board the ship's gift shops and as downloads on this website under the "Albums" link.
In between contracts with Royal Caribbean and the Perry Phillips Quartet, Srikanth has also worked with Norwegian Cruise Lines onboard the Gem as show band bassist. The main production show there is Swing! which is a shortened version of the same show that was on Broadway in NYC in 1999/2000.
